Near the restaurant you will find the only desert in Europe, Taberna’s Desert, a land of great geographical diversity, offering a surprising range of tourism attractions and activities.
The haunting landscape of Tabernas Desert bears more than a passing resemblance to the stereotypical images onf the wild west. Not surprisingly, many classic westerns of Sergio Leone have been filmed here. Movies as “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”, “A fistful of Dollars” or some locations of “Lawrence of Arabia”. Nowadays the tourism industry has turning the area into a mini-Hollywood of movie nostalgia. There three sites that are operated independently, that are opened for visitors: The Oasys theme Park, Fort Bravo and Western Leone. All of them offer a variety of the American Wild West attractions.
This area offers some fascinating and enjoyable tours too. In Sorbas, 30km far from Tabernas you will have the unique opportunity to visit a natural cave at the “Karst en Yesos”, the most important network of gypsum caves in europe. With more than 3000 hours of sunshine/year it is only natural that Tabernas was chosen as the site for the largest solar-energy centre in Europe, the CIEMAT-Plataforma solar de Almeria. Both places can be visited with prior arrangement.
30 minutes in car from Los Albardinales you will find Cabo de Gata Nijar natural park with some of the last unspoilt volcanic beaches and reefs in Europe with breathtaking bays, cristal clear water and picturesque fishing villages.
